Lovely City - Mexico

Mexico City: 20 million people, 6500 ft elevation, big, loud, INTENSE...

You can drive for over an hour and not be able to go from one side to another. But, if you take the subway, you can move across the city quickly and efficiently. Cabs and buses everywhere!

It is so modern and at the same time, it is the ancient Aztec center of the universe. It smells like tacos, copal, smog, flowers and, well, 20 million butts.

The city is actually sinking back into the earth at a pretty good clip (find the photo of the sagging building!). The buildings themselves are works of art. Strongly influenced by the Spanish and tile work that makes your eyes water from the beauty. Cobble streets and amazing parks. And over 2,000 colonias (neighborhoods) of which we explored maybe 3 or 4. We really need to go back and check out more.

The Zocalo (downtown plaza) contains government buildings, cathedral and of course an Aztec ruin (Tenochtitlan).

The people are happy and friendly and warm. We loved them. They embraced us.

I need to end this now because words are so inadequate to describe the phenomenon Mexico City.
