Guadalajara, how do I love thee????

Let me count the ways......... We took the bus from Mazatlan at 11pm and woke up in Guadalajara at about 7am the next morning in the dark. Four minutes after we had gotten off the bus, a kind elder walked up to us and said "Welcome to Guadalajara, can I help you find your way?"

The goddess that guards this city is Minerva and she is so beautiful. We were so impressed by the clean city, the friendly people, the food (best tacos pastor I ever had). Our hostel was located right in the center of downtown. We were able to walk around our block and have those tacos, real coffee, bus stops to everywhere, good restaurants.....

Guadalajara is the 2nd largest city in the country. Up there at about 5,000 feet elevation - so good to be in the mountains! Our first day, we took a tour of the city and really got a good sense of all the lovely parks, the bridges, the statues, the look, the smell, the sounds, and the feel of the city. Not only do they boast the largest market in Latin America, but they also have a market underground.

Everywhere downtown are the most beautiful horse-drawn buggies - right out of Cinderella. Even at night we could hear the clop clop of the horses going under our balcony.

There was music everywhere in this city that gave us Mariachi music. We saw kids make music with hoses and empty soda bottles, we saw a grandpa and his grandson hop a bus and sing and play the guitar....

Museums and artwork everywhere. And we lucked out on the free day at the museum downtown. They had an exhibit of photos from the revolution that was so powerful. The Churches were beautiful too. We peeked into a few...

Another city we can't wait to get back to.
