From San Carlos

Well, we loaded the truck to the gills on Wednesday and headed out to Truth or Consequences. Then, two days on the beach in Puerto Penasco. Today, we reached San Carlos. Been following the baseball playoffs at some of our favorite cantinas. Notice the dolphins that visited us and the beautiful sunset and moonrise. We're both nursing slight sunburns from the joy of being on a hot beach.

We're a week away from heading south. Who knows what awaits us on the road and in Mazatlan this winter.

We are enjoying our last week in Mazatlan.  These last few photos capture some of our favorite things to do - like riding the ferry to Stone Island - we celebrated my birthday with our friends (notice the beautiful flowers I'm holding in some of the photos.

And it is so good to have Hal (the family photographer!) in some photos.

 Semana Santa (Holy Week) increases the population of Mazatlan by thousands and thousands.  Here are some shots of our usually empty beach.  Driving downtown is impossible - we choose to stay close to home.

This is the newest addition to Las Jaibas RV Park.  He was waiting when we returned from our walk to the beach to watch the sunset.

 Well, we know we haven't kept up with this blog as well as in past years but we have a good excuse this year. (Helene's surgery, remember?) But here is an assortment of photos from recent classes and events that we've participated in.

Our New Glasses

We went to the optometrist in town and came away with new glasses. This is what we look like now.

Third Annual Las Jaibas Chili Cookoff

Saturday was the big Chili Cookoff here that benefits one of the orphans' homes in town. It was a huge success. The chili ran out in less than an hour, instead of the two hours alloted for voting. Northie's was the best but, once again, she did not win. Que lastima.

We had fun, Hal ate a lot of good chili, and the orphans won.

Tamales

Our First Tamale

 

Another fun Mazatlan experience – this one started on Twelfth Night (or Epiphany) which we celebrated here at the bus with our Mazatlan family.  Our friend Ismael baked an awesome bread with little figures baked into it.  If you got a piece that had one of these little guys in it, you had to make Tamales for the gang on Feb. 2 (Candelaria).  Of course, Hal got one of them.  Sooooooooo………

Yesterday, we both worked our little heinies off and made 17 beautiful, tasty tamales.  And we were the ONLY ones at the gathering that actually made them from scratch.  The other tamales we ate were ordered ahead of time.  We had a fun meal with our friends.  Making the tamales was one of my favorite parts of the week.  Yummmmm…
