Fran's third visit to Mazatlan!

 A HUGE success...we had such a good time with Hal's ma.  This blog could also easily be titled "the best restaurants in Mazatlan whirlwind tour".

The big red flag on the beach is the warning we had for the Tsunami.  We definitely were able to see a difference in a couple of the waves.  We spent a lot of time at the hotel here with the pool and took a couple wonderful naps in the lounge chairs.

While Hal was at the ArtWalk doing Tarot readings, Fran and I met up with some friends for happy hour and to watch a beautiful sunset.

We also did some exploring in one of the little towns not too far from here - El Quelite.  One of the highlights was the toilet in the tree trunk.  We really know how to show our visitors a good time.

And we were so happy to be able to spend some time at Las Jaibas - sitting on our patio and enjoying the neighborhood.

We already have a pretty good list of things to do for next year - and have some re-runs of the highlights of this visit - lounging by the pool was one of my favorites.

Work Day on Stone Island

We were so honored to be a part of the work party to prepare the the land for the Temazcal that we hold so dear. We are moving away from the beach, up a little hill, closer to the sky....

We started early, as you can tell from Northie's face at the ferry. But we were fortified with fresh, hot corn tortillas, and that was a good thing.

We needed to make a level place, clear stones, pick up trash and become intimate with our new location. so, to the sound of drumming and singing, our little band of hard workers created a beautiful place to hold ceremony. Note the before-and-after photos.

And after.... the best seafood in all of Mazatlan!!!

Nature Hike

There is an estuary not too far from here that is incredibly rich with wildlife. Here's a small sampling of who lives there. Unfortunately the armadillo was too fast for the camera but it sure was cool to see him - a first!

Getting Ready For Carnaval

Walking around the city on the eve of Carnaval I spotted some scenes that I think will give you a slight taste of the energy of this entire week.

A Day At The Tattoo Parlor

Ah yes, the tattoo parlor in Mazatlan. You may remember this from last winter. Well, I went with Hal and a couple of girlfriends. You never know what kind of trouble you can get into. Turns out, Sergio was able to put the finishing touches on my ink from last year. And my favorite part (aside from the way it looks) is that he was willing to trade a Tarot reading for the work. I LOVE this city.
