Making it up as we go….. A most delightful New Year’s Eve.

Happy New Year! We celebrated and thanked 2010 with a day at the beach, laughter, shrimp, surprises, fireworks and the best buddies.

Our day started out with the discovery of yet ANOTHER fun neighbor, the 6 ft long boa constrictor. Just about the whole rv park was there to say howdy. Keep eating those pesky mice, I say.

The NM gang headed to the beach on the ferry. Yoga, cotton candy and a new dog friend were the inspiration for some photos…

For the evening, we had a plan – bus drivers had a different one (they all blew off their jobs to be with family), so we improvised. Made our journey all around the city in search of food in the big brother of the pulmonia, the red truck. Went to the best fireworks and then, home sweet home. Now, we are starting to say adios to our visitors. Becca leaves this afternoon. Sheila and fam still have 3 days that we need to make the most of.

Hal’s class starts on Tuesday morning. I’m in charge of the almond bars. Mmm……

2011 looks good so far and feels even better.

Christmas at Las Jaibas

Some photos from the Christmas season here. A group of children from the Salvation Army home came to perform for us and receive gifts from us. On Christmas day we had our traditional community meal. The holiday spirit was very much present.

Assorted Stuff

We have been busy lately - haven't had a chance to post a decent blog. So here's a little sampling of the past week.
Our good friends Sheila and family are visiting so we are trying to keep up with them and showing them our favorite places in town. Our favorite birds (orioles) are back in town. The beaches are still beautiful. We went to a birthday party for the six-year-old son of a friend. We attended a full moon temazcal on Stone Island, we laid out on the beach until 2 am and watched the lunar eclipse, we attended a solstice party last night, and then there's always the fun shopping at the mercado.

Ballgame

This is the play that turned the game against the Mazatlan Venados - we got robbed. People booed the umpire. But we had a great time at the game last night anyway.

The Nutcracker

The other night we saw a wonderful performance of the Nutcracker ballet done by students and alumni of a ballet school in Mazatlan. We were so impressed by the costumes, direction, choreography, dancing, and energy of all involved. Plus it was held in a classic old theater in the old part of the city. We went with some friends and had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants before the show.
It's been quite a busy week for fun events in town.

A Foggy Day in Mazatlan

Unusual, but nice for a change.
