The Nutcracker

The other night we saw a wonderful performance of the Nutcracker ballet done by students and alumni of a ballet school in Mazatlan. We were so impressed by the costumes, direction, choreography, dancing, and energy of all involved. Plus it was held in a classic old theater in the old part of the city. We went with some friends and had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants before the show.
It's been quite a busy week for fun events in town.

Tribute to a Hero

The title of this blog should really be "Imayen" which is how all three versions of "Imagine" were pronounced. We were in awe of how Mazatlan paid tribute to John Lennon.... We left after 3 hours and 7 bands in the Plaza Machado. Who knows how long the show went on. Six of the bands we saw were Mexican (visualize Jack Black sounding like Ricky Ricardo), one ex-pat band. We heard lots of the more well known Lennon/Beatles songs and some pretty ambitious offerings too - Cold Turkey, Working Class Hero, I am the Walrus, to name a few. It was a most wonderful show. It really touched our hearts as well as satisfying a rock and roll sweet tooth.

From the Arctic Circle to Argentina...

...by motorcycle. From time to time we meet people who are doing amazing journeys. Mark and Claire are staying at this park for a while. Three months ago they shipped their bikes from their home in England to Canada, drove north as far as they could go, and then headed south. They will eventually wind up in Argentina and have been on the road for over a year. They are nice people to have here.

Beautiful Mazatlan

We are still in the honeymoon phase of our love affair with this city. For sure there are some sketchy parts (hmmm..... a blog for another day, perhaps), but look at what was in the viewfinder this afternoon. Hal is the photographer.

A happening city

This city has something going on almost every day. On Friday, the marching band was in front of Villa Margarita where Hal did tarot readings during the Art Walk. On Saturday, we watched fireworks (celebrating the season of lights) - the whole malecon was shooting them off - including a ship in the bay. On Sunday, the world famous Mazatlan marathon ran right past the rv park. We are always enjoying some fun thing here. This city keeps us entertained.
